LO3: P4: Produce a plan for the structure and content of an original radio programme
Produce a plan for the structure and content of an original radio programme
Initial Planning:
This image below shows our initial planning for our radio programme including the content, scheduling, structure (running order) and timings. The left is our initial ideas before making sure they are structured properly on the right. The circled numbers are how many seconds each of the aligned sectors will last within our radio extract.
Weekly Production Schedules:
These are our weekly production schedules made for our team to know that we are doing that week and on what day. They help us stay on track with deadlines and managing the overall project. Furthermore, it helps us separate the tasks needed to be done for the project and what equipment we will need for each date.
Proposal:
This is an overall proposal/pitch about our radio programme and what is is about/who it is targeted for and other areas we needed to consider before making our radio programme extract.
PURPOSE, FORM & GENRE:
Our original radio programme is an entertainment program about films, film reviews, critics and box office performance. The purpose of our original radio programme is to entertain our listeners and keep them engaged while also informing them of the latest films and how well they have been received. Our radio programme will be an audio product distributed across different frequency signals on the radio waves. The title of our radio programme will be 'Monday Movie Minutes'. The name of the radio station that our radio programme is going to be broadcasted from is called Star FM. The type of radio programme ours belongs to is chat as the majority of the content is the presenters and listeners talking. The genre of our radio programme would be Talk as it gives information to the listeners to entertain them.
PROPOSED CONTENT:
Within our radio programme, we are going to include a jingle ( for both the radio station as well as the radio programme ), chat about what is coming up in the show, 3 different phone ins from listeners, followed by discussions from the presenters, one of these will be a live conversation with the listeners being able to participate, an announcement for an advert followed by the advert itself - the advert will be surrounding Savoy Doncaster - we will then welcome listeners back from the ad break, with an introduction to our next phone in being the conversation, finally a reflection on the conversation and the overall radio programme so far, signing off with an ending chat and a final jingle. To create our jingles we are going to need to record the tune of Star FM and Monday Movie Minutes, as well as asset the sound of the moving film track reel and a background noise which will be edited together with the previously recorded tunes.
TARGET AUDIENCE:
The target audience of our radio programme is of the age range of 15-35 year olds, for the all genders, races and sexualities, social grade of C1 to E and psychographics of mainstreamers. It would be targeted at the age range of 15-35 year olds because that is the age of people who are most likely to go to a cinema to watch a new popular film after its' release. All genders, races and sexualities are included as we do not want to discriminate against people, plus these aspects do not necessarily impact the interests of the people which is what our niched radio programme is around as the audience would all need to have the same interest of films. The target audience would also include local people from around the Doncaster borough as Savoy is a local cinema and it is a local radio show. This would mean that the geographical radius would be quite small. The social grades would be low because these are the people who have the most dispensable time to be listening to the radio station. The psychographics would include mainstreamers as this group is the majority and it will also include many genres of films and also going to the cinema is a family friendly experience.
EQUIPMENT AND PERSONNEL:
To create our radio programme, the personnel needed will include the presenters (Lily and Georgia), the listeners, the listeners who are participating by calling in, and if we were an actual radio station we would need the technicians. We would also need a lot of equipment such as a microphone, a laptop to record the audio on, headphones to listen to our self and the caller in, a computer to edit and keep track of audio levelling.
BUDGETING AND POTENTIAL FUNDING:
For our radio programme, we would need to budget the money for different areas such as the various types of equipment, the personnel's wages, the bills - such as WiFi costs and any other necessary fees. Some areas where we can gain some potential funding to pay for the budgeting would be through advertising. An example of this is having the local cinema pay a cost for their 30 second advert which would we would then be able to put forwards into the budgeting fees.
Scripts:
These are the pictures of our notes we are going to use when recording our radio programme extract. The first one is the storyline for the voice actor who will be playing Linda Wilson for her phone in segment. The second one is our advert script as it includes the information we wanted to tell our audience from the third picture which also includes the script for the announcement of the ad break and coming adverts.
Below is our advert script - this gives the voice actor words to read off an how they should read them with the exclamation and question marks.
This is our overall asset log for both our jingle, advert and the rest of the radio programme extract with the resources and status of permission and copyright:
Planning for Jingle:
- Name of Station: Star FM
- Name of Radio Programme: Monday Movie Minutes
- Sound Effect: Film Reel Countdown Noise
Below is an asset log of the resources we will use for our radio's jingle:
Planning for Advert:
This is our planning for the advert which is being included in our radio programme extract. We made a script for the voice actor to follow and an asset log of the assets we are going to use when editing and creating our advert.
Health and Safety:
This is our risk assessment for when we are recording our radio programme. It covers the potential hazards to members of our team and how we are going about minimizing these hazards.
